We all have little artists inside us
Whether you call yourself an artist or not, Young-ha Kim is convinced that you are. The Korean novelist says we are all born artists, but “the little artists within us… get locked in.”
In fact, he says the reason we’re so quick to judge so-called ‘talentless’ people we see on TV or YouTube is “not because we’re evil but because we have little artists pent up inside us.”
So his solution? “Let’s be artists right now,” he says, “Right away... right this minute, we can turn off the TV, log off the internet, get up and start to do something.”
Just do it, says Young-ha. Stop listening to the devils that tell you that you can’t, or ask you what it’s for. “Art is not for anything. Art is the ultimate goal.”
His description of the devils that keep us from our art reminds me of an excellent song about a similar evil (NSFW language):
I dare you to not be inspired after those two videos. I double-dog dare you.
Now I’m off to make some art. Are you?
