Learning to code with a purpose
Let’s teach kids to code, says one of Scratch’s developers, Mitch Resnick. He tells a great story about teaching a student how to use variables, because the student needed a variable for the project he was creating. Mitch was surprised when the student thanked him profusely afterwards. “How often is it that teachers are thanked by their students for teaching them variables?” he asks.
It’s a funny story, but Mitch makes an important point. Learning to code—or anything else, for that matter—is exceedingly more interesting if you have strong motivation for doing so.
Definitely a video worth watching.
Why are you learning to code? Have you got a project in mind? Come tell us about it on Twitter or Facebook.
