Dance break

Josh and I usually work remotely, so we spend a lot of time on Google Talk to stay in touch and discuss plans and progress for Hello Code.

Josh was a bit surprised during a recent discussion when I wrote this:

dance break. brb.

When I returned three minutes later, he asked if I had meant literally “dancing.” Of course, I told him. Walking On Sunshine was playing.

Come on, how could you not stop and dance to this?

I was never really prone to dancing in my bedroom before—it’s a fairly recent phenomenon I’ve come across. The thing is, I’ve realized it’s really fun. I have actually made a playlist for this specific purpose, so I can have a good bedroom dance whenever I need a pick-me-up.

When you’re learning a new skill (like coding) or you’re busy with a project like, say, building a company that may just change the world, it’s really easy to let stress or negative thoughts pile up on you sometimes.

But trust me, bedroom dancing is a great way to let yourself off the hook for three minutes and find an excuse to smile. I highly recommend it as a daily activity.

If you have another fun habit that helps you smile and stay positive, I’d love to hear it! (I’m especially open to the ones that only take around five minutes—they’re just so easy to slip into a normal day!) Hit us up on Twitter or Facebook if you have a suggestion.
